Program Requirements

Here are the program entry requirements:

  • Full COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory, and proof via the BC Vaccine Card is required.
  • Applicants must be either Canadian citizens or have Permanent Residency status in Canada.

Program Completion

Upon successful completion of the Heath Career Access Program, the following steps will apply:

  • Registry Registration: You must promptly apply for registration with the BC Care Aide/Community Health Worker Registry once you receive confirmation of completion from the post-secondary institution.
  • Position Term: The term of your Health Care Support Worker position will be considered concluded at this point.
  • Displacement or Layoff Rights: Northern Health will not impose any requirements for displacement or layoff rights as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
  • Immediate Application and Acceptance: You will be required to promptly apply for any available vacancies and accept a Community Health Worker position as stipulated in the Return of Service Agreement.

Qualifications

Required Education, Training, and Experience:

  • Successful completion of Grade 10, including English 10 or an equivalent qualification.
  • Possession of a valid BC Driver’s License.

Skills and Abilities

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in dealing with others effectively.
  • Strong organizational capabilities.
  • Physical fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Competence in operating related equipment.
